Mother Nature gone awry

January 30, 2008 · Leave a Comment

71392517hxgi6pu0imgp1237.jpgI don’t know what’s worse – winter, or a sneak peak of spring followed by a blast of  winter so severe that you get a brain freeze by simply opening the door to let the dogs out.  Yesterday, all day it was close to 50 degrees with thunderstorms – and then, a cruel joke- the temp dropped by 40 degrees in a matter of a few hours.  Yikes!  The entire city is now the world’s largest skating rink.  Those who are one brick shy of a full load have attempted to venture out into this artic mess, only to find themselves in ditches.  No doubt these are the same people I see at the grocery store on a 18 degree day in shorts and flip flops.  Weather like this just makes me want to knit all the more.  There is nothing quite like sitting by the fire on a night like tonight watching endless reruns of nothingness, and knitting happily away, oblivious to all that is going on around you.  Maybe this will give me the incentive to finish a project or two that are getting near completion.  Who knows, I might even have something to show off by tomorrow!

Life – interrupted

January 26, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Just when you think that you are pretty much back on track after the holidays, there it is. Your child tells you she feels funny, to which you ask “Do you think you are going to be sick?”, to which she replies, no, then proceeds to puke all over you and your clean kitchen floor. This time, however, it wasn’t one of those puke 3 times, then over it kind of nights, it was an every 15 minute for 10 hours straight kind of night. Nothing like getting only 3 hours sleep, and doing it next to a firey hot child clinging to her bucket. The only good thing that came from it was when the next day she proceeded to sleep for most of the day, and I was so brain dead that the only thing I was capable of other than washing the mountains of laundry her sickness produced, was knitting. Not knitting anything that required thought, mind you, but the totally mindless kind of row after row of nothingness that becomes a scarf or shawl. So I got started on a chemo hat to be donated to Knit Michigan, some work on a baby blanket, and a little bit done on a pair of socks for my significant other, that is until I started making too many mistakes.  The other good thing to come of it is that the others in my family won’t come near me for fear that I am a carrier of the bug now, so I am getting much time to myself to knit!

Oh, to be a manly man

January 23, 2008 · Leave a Comment

manly-men-724892.jpgSeveral weeks ago I wrote of an unnamed person who had finally given in and let me teach him to knit.  This week it came to his attention that his attempt at what he considers a girly craft was posted for all to see on this blog.  He has asked for it to be removed, but I refuse.  The way I see it, the damage to his manly reputation is all but done.  I will, however, update all of you who care to let you know that he has put away the needles for the pursuit of more manly things – building fires (he has informed me on more than one occasion that this is man’s work), laying on the sofa, one hand in pants waist watching endless hours of football, building manly things that require hammers and saws and getting dirty and sweaty, and lastly watching law and order while mocking the shows I would like to watch instead which, of course, are too girly for him.  Still, does he understand that knitting was invented by men?  This, he finds hard to believe.  Knitting will always be in his mind, women’s work.

Having fun – wish you were here

January 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Today has been an excellent day to stay in and work on this thing – If we are lucky it got to 12degrees today! So here I have sat, working on this until my eyes are bleary, trying to figure out all of the features. Did I mention I’ve been so busy with this that I haven’t showered today? Maybe its time to give it a rest. Besides, I need to get knitting in order to be able to have something to add to this.

Oh, check out the link to Danny Deen’s Treehouse under fun, family and friends. It’s my brother’s website, and not that I’m prejudiced or anything, but he is an amazing photographer, and he showcases the best of his many wonderful works on it.

By the way, any comments are appreciated. Is the music too much? It is starting to drive me crazy, but then I have clicked on this page so many times making changes, that all I’ve heard of it is the same 30second intro to the same song over and over. Let me know if it needs to go. In the mean time, it is time for me to go feed kids.

Moving Day at last

January 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment

mentrk1.jpgThe big day has arrived. I’ve packed, the movers are here, and this is it – my new home! Ok – so it’s just a new blogsite, but it’s the closest that I want to come to actually moving. After lots of frustration with blogger, I have moved my blog. I am still tweaking it, but I’m liking the ease of use with this site. Keep watching for more goodies to be added! In the meantime, I am trying to figure out my next knitting project. One thing’s for sure, I won’t be without one for long.

Time Out………..

January 11, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I’m proving to not be a very good blogger these days. Seems life is happening instead. Its not that I am not knitting- no, I have been doing so much knitting and crocheting, that my wrist is killing me. Seems my church’s prayer shawl ministry decided that they wanted 15 done by this week in order to give them to visiting misionaries. And since I wasn’t able to get the Alix prayer shawl done, in a fit of desperation I pulled it all apart and decided to quickly crochet one instead. Add to that a new baby coming into our family and my need to provide her with hand knitted bliss, and needless to say I need a break. While I didn’t get a chance to take a picture of the infamous shawl, I will soon provide a shot of the beautiful baby blanket that I hope to finish this weekend.

The party’s over……….

Yeah!!!!! The holidays are over!!!! Back to knitting!!!!!  I did, however, manage to finish Clapotis before the holidays – just in time to use it during all of our snowy weather.  Next up is a hat for my son, to be done in camo colored yarn if I can find what I want – (seems his entire wardrobe at this point is camo) and I am beginning to mull over plans for a really large scale project – which will take me forever to do, but should be worthwile.  More knitting – this is my New Year’s resolution!
